The Denmark Open 2026 begins in Odense on October 13, bringing together some of the biggest names in world badminton for another major BWF World Tour event. For India, the spotlight will be firmly on PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen, while the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and a group of promising young players will also carry the country's hopes. The Super 750 tournament runs from October 13 to 18 at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense and carries a total prize purse of US$950,000..
PV Sindhu Gets a New Opening Opponent
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu enters Denmark after a mixed recent run. The Indian star won the Japan Open Super 750 title in July but was knocked out in the quarter-finals of the Arctic Open last week after a three-game defeat to Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon. Sindhu's initial draw had put her against world No. 1 and defending champion An Se-young. However, following two withdrawals, the draw was redone. Sindhu will now begin her Denmark Open campaign against Germany's Yvonne Li. The change gives Sindhu a different route into the tournament, although the women's singles field remains extremely competitive. The 31-year-old Indian remains one of the biggest names in the draw and will be looking to build momentum after her Japan Open triumph..
Lakshya Sen Faces a Tough Test
Lakshya Sen has an equally demanding opening assignment. The Indian men's singles player has been drawn against third seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei. Lakshya will be looking to rediscover his best form after a difficult period that has included injury concerns and an early exit from the individual badminton competition at the Asian Games. He did, however, beat Japan's Kodai Naraoka in the men's team event at the Asian Games. Earlier this year, Lakshya reached the All England final, another indication that he remains capable of challenging the world's leading players when fully fit and confident. The Denmark Open therefore represents an important opportunity for him to regain consistency against one of the tournament's seeded contenders..
Satwik-Chirag Return to Action
India's men's doubles challenge will be led by Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. The fifth-seeded Indian pair will begin against China's He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu. Satwik and Chirag will be eager to respond after their surprise first-round exit at the Asian Games. Their recent season, however, has included significant success. The pair won the Singapore Open Super 750 title in May and followed it with victory at the China Masters last month. A deep run in Denmark would give them another chance to strengthen their position among the world's leading men's doubles combinations..
India's Women's Singles Challenge
Sindhu is not India's only hope in the women's singles draw..
The Indian contingent also includes Tanvi Sharma, Ashmita Chaliha, Devika Sihag and Unnati Hooda..
Tanvi enters the tournament after winning her maiden BWF World Tour title at the Taipei Open in August, while Ashmita also arrives as a tour-level champion after winning the Korea Masters Super 300.. Unnati Hooda has also attracted attention after an impressive Asian Games campaign, while Devika Sihag faces a difficult opening-round match against eighth seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand..
Lakshya, Ayush and Srikanth in Men's Singles
Alongside Lakshya Sen, India will have Ayush Shetty and Kidambi Srikanth in the men's singles draw. Ayush will face Indonesia's Alwi Farhan, who defeated the Indian at the World Championships. For Srikanth, Denmark holds some personal significance. The former world No. 1 won the Denmark Open in 2017 and returns to the tournament this year facing France's Arnaud Merkle in the opening round..
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Look to Continue Their Rise
In women's doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will spearhead India's challenge.
The pair won a historic bronze medal at the World Championships in August and subsequently reached the quarter-finals at the Asian Games. They will open their Denmark Open campaign against Chinese Taipei's Yan Fei Chen and Hsieh Pei Shan. Their recent performances have made them one of the most closely watched Indian combinations on the international circuit..

What to Watch for India
There are several storylines worth following during India's Denmark Open campaign. For Sindhu, the tournament is an opportunity to turn her recent Japan Open success into another deep World Tour run.
