Salman Khan’s upcoming war drama Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace has taken a major step toward its theatrical release. According to reports published on October 3, 2026, the revised version of the film has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry..However, the film is not completely cleared for release yet. It still needs certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)..
Why Was Maatrubhumi Delayed?
The film was earlier announced under the title Battle of Galwan and was based around the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops..The project went through several changes, including a title change and reshoots. Reports in September said the film had not yet been submitted to the CBFC and that discussions were continuing over aspects of its China-related storyline..The film was eventually renamed Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace earlier this year. The new title was announced along with a new poster and a message centred around peace..
What Has Changed in the Film?
Recent reports say the filmmakers made substantial changes to the movie before submitting the revised version to government authorities..According to reports citing people familiar with the process, the new version presents India-China relations in a more positive light than the earlier version. The film's story and scenes were reportedly altered through reshoots..The exact extent of the changes has not been publicly detailed by the filmmakers..
Is Maatrubhumi Confirmed for Release?
Not yet..The reported NOC from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry is an important step, but CBFC certification is still pending. The makers will need to complete that process before the theatrical release can be officially confirmed..Some reports have mentioned November 13, 2026 as a possible release date, but this should not be treated as an officially confirmed date until the makers announce it.
Who Is in Maatrubhumi?
The film stars Salman Khan in the lead role, with Chitrangda Singh also part of the cast..The film is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and is produced under Salman Khan’s production banner..The project has attracted attention because of its war-drama setting, Salman Khan’s involvement and its connection with the Galwan Valley events..
What Happens Next?
The immediate next step is the CBFC certification process..If certification is completed and the makers confirm a release date, Maatrubhumi could finally move toward its theatrical release after months of delays and revisions..For now, the key update is that the revised version has reportedly received the government’s NOC, while final film certification is still awaited..
